MARCH BRUSH LETTERING WORKSHOPS

Atiliay Brush Lettering Workshops Part 1 and Part 2

I’m excited to be teaching both Beginners Brush Lettering Part 1 and Part 2 this month! Details and the link to purchase tickets are below. If these dates don’t work for you, check the Workshop Calendar for future dates or contact me to host a private workshop at your home with your friends!

What’s the difference between a Part 1 class and a Part 2 workshop?

.

Part 1 covers the basics–this is the class to take if you have no experience or have dabbled on your own and would like more direction/aren’t sure if you are doing it right. We will go over tools and supplies used in brush lettering, how to hold the pen, how to create basic strokes, how to create letters, how to create words, and we’ll also go over common mistakes and project ideas. You will receive one-on-one direction and time to practice and ask questions.

Included in this workshop are: my favorite 3 brush pens in varying sizes for beginners, a selection of paper, workbook and worksheets, and an additional 50+ PDFs that will be emailed to you for you to print out at home and continue practicing.

Part 2 is designed for beginners who have taken Part 1 or have basic brush lettering knowledge and feel comfortable with creating strokes, letters, and words. In this workshop we will add more style and decorative elements to our lettering by learning how to create bounce/movement and how to add flourishes. We will also go over how to layout a sentence or quote.

Included in this workshop are: 3 brush pens I like using for decorative elements (different from the ones you received in the part 1 class), a selection of paper, workbook and worksheets, and PDFs that will be emailed to you for you to print out at home and continue practicing.

JAN + FEB 2019 | MODERN BRUSH CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP RECAP

After a short holiday break, it was nice to get back to teaching modern brush calligraphy workshops! I had the chance to return to some of my favorite venues, teach at a new location, and of course make new friends :) My favorite part of the workshops is definitely getting to know so many wonderful people who I probably wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise. This first few months of workshops have also been extra special because several people have shared that they really love the give back aspect and it’s something they strongly connect with. Hearing that really warms my heart–it’s something that I am very passionate about and the reason why Atiliay exists! :)

Workshops For A Cause: Each workshop seat helps to provide 20 meals for The Ebongalethu Educare Center Preschool & Nursery in Motherwell, South Africa
January and February workshops helped to provide 1,280 meals!
Thank you to every attendee who made this possible!

See below for photos and details about each workshop.

Are you interested in learning the art of brush lettering? I’d love to letter with you!

1.12.19 | RUNWAY TRASH | LONG BEACH

Long Beach Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay
Long Beach Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

I had the wonderful opportunity of kicking off 2019 with back to back workshops at RunwayTrash in Long Beach! Lauree is the hostess with the mostess and what makes this extra special is that she hosted my very first workshop 2 years ago so I feel like it has come full circle :) Thank you Laura, Erin, Arisbet, Alfreda, Vanessa, Erin, Cathy, Rachel, Camee and Teresa, Janice, Rachel, Lilia, Brenda, Gisela, Aprilyn, and Shikha for being part of the first workshops of the year! PS: RunwayTrash has the BEST collection of vintage clothes and accessories as well as a variety of goods from local makers and artists!

1.13.19 | THE POTTING SHED | ORANGE

Orange County Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

This is one of my favorite places to teach at because The Potting Shed is such a beautiful and inspiring space (it is both a gift shop and nursery and where I get my succulents)! I got to see some familiar faces as well as meet new friends. These ladies did an AMAZING job with lettering and it was so nice to spend the morning getting to know each other and lettering together! Thank you Teri, Debbi, Shiloe, Kylie, Chloe, René, Molly, Reo, and Debra for joining me for this workshop!

1.26.19 | OH SHINY PAPER CO | SAN GABRIEL

Los Angeles Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

It was great to be back at Oh Shiny Paper Co in their bright, fun, and colorful balloon-filled space! Kelly of OSPC joined in on the workshop fun along with Jayne, Katie, Tiffany, Lyla, Katy, Hyun, Sarah, and Lily! Jayne reached out after the class to let me know that she chose my workshop because she really connected with the giving back aspect–it’s something that is important to her too and she sponsors a little girl in Ethiopia! Reading that was really special and I love that this is something that is close to both of our hearts.

2.3.19 | OH SHINY PAPER CO | SAN GABRIEL

Los Angeles Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

Los Angeles Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

This is the second year in a row I’ve spend Superbowl Sunday teaching at Oh Shiny Paper Co–and I wouldn’t have it any other way :)! Thank you Pearlin, Nathalie, Angie, Susan, Robin, Guy, Megan, and Fiona as well as Becca (who also hosted us!), Lauren, Joey, Yvonne, Kate, Sherry, Jennifer and Yoko for spending this rainy day lettering with me! I loved that Pearlin really connected with the give back aspect and I also had Girl Scout Lauren join the class because she’d like to teach her fellow scouts brush lettering for one of her projects! I loved getting to know everyone and had so much fun–and I actually made it back to see the half time show!

2.9.19 | COTTONWOOD HOME | CITY OF INDUSTRY

Los Angeles Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

Los Angeles Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

This was my first workshop teaching at Cottonwood Home! They are a lifestyle brand dedicated to kiddos and they host workshops for both children and adults at their bright and open space. A big thank you to owner Kari for hosting us–it was so wonderful to meet her in person! We had a great group of creative ladies that rainy morning–Carol, Sylvia, Ruth, Allison, and Kacy! I really enjoyed my time with them and I absolutely loved the green wall so we took 2 class pics :)

2.17.19 | THE POTTING SHED | ORANGE

Orange County Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

Thank you Andra, Traci, Mandy, Kelly, Susan, and Ann for joining me at The Potting Shed for a Sunday Funday workshop! I loved seeing how everyone’s focus and how their strokes and lettering progressed throughout the workshop! A special shout out and thanks to Ro for sharing the workshop with Mandy :)

2.20.19 | WEST ELM | COSTA MESA

West Elm Costa Mesa Brush Lettering Workshop by Atiliay

I got to wrap up February with a workshop at West Elm South Coast Plaza with Rie, Donna, Claire, Catherine, and Linda! This was a mid-week evening workshop and it was nice to change things up and get creative on a Wednesday night! Both Catherine and Donna asked how I ended up teaching a class at West Elm so I thought I’d share that with you as well–I had seen other workshops take place at West Elm and they do a great job of showcasing local artists and hosting pop-ups and classes at their stores. I love their furniture and thought it’d be a beautiful place to teach so I reached out and that’s how I connected with them. Thank you ladies for joining me for a workshop and a special thank you to West Elm and their team for hosting us!

FEBRUARY 2018 | MODERN CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP RECAP

February had me driving around Southern California for 4 awesome calligraphy workshops in San Gabriel, Long Beach, Vista, and Downtown LA. I had a ton of fun and was very excited to meet fellow lettering enthusiasts and continue to raise meals through creativity and community. Every workshop is a totally new and different experience thanks to each attendee and the energy they bring to class–I am very grateful for everyone who has trusted me to be their teacher and made each workshop so amazing!

Letter For Good: Each workshop seat helps to provide 10 meals for The Ebongalethu Educare Center Preschool & Nursery in Motherwell, South Africa. February workshops helped to provide 400 meals!

See below for all the fun details on this month’s workshops!

2.4.18 | OH SHINY PAPER CO | SAN GABRIEL

Atiliay Brush Lettering Workshop - Oh Shiny Paper Co 2-4-18

It was great to be back at Oh Shiny Paper Co! I enjoyed getting to know this great group of ladies–and one gentlemen who actually surprised his girlfriend with this class and joined us as an observer :) We had been emailing back and forth to coordinate and I was so excited to have her join us–I couldn’t wait to ask her about the surprise. She told us he drove her here and she literally had no idea what she would be doing until she sat down. He totally deserves major boyfriend brownie points for pulling this off!

2.17.18 | METAPHOR BOUTIQUE | VISTA

2.17.18 Atiliay Calligraphy Workshop at Metaphor

Although I’ve lived in Southern California my whole life and been to San Diego many times, I’d never stopped by the lovely city of Vista until my workshop at Metaphor Boutique! It’s a goal of mine to teach in different cities (and maybe states in the near future) so I am very thankful for the opportunity to teach here and make my workshop available to those living in SD and surrounding areas. And because I taught at Metaphor, I actually had the amazing opportunity to meet and letter with two new friends from Germany, Minelle and Kathryn! Minelle found my work through Instagram and realized I was teaching a workshop close to where her friend Kathryn (who is also from Germany) was living, ON Kathryn’s birthday, WHILE Minelle was in town visiting! Super serendipitous and I love how lettering brought us all together! We emailed to coordinate and this was part of Minelle’s birthday gift to Kathryn. This is seriously one of the coolest things that has happened on my lettering journey and I was so glad to be able to help them celebrate while doing something they both loved!

2.18.18 | SHARE & DO GOOD | LONG BEACH

Atiliay Brush Lettering Workshop - Share & Do Good 2-18-18

It was great to be back at Share & Do Good–not only is it a lovely space but they also give back a portion of proceeds from workshops to Rice Bowls! So it’s double the giving which I really love. We had a birthday surprise here as well, this time from a husband to a wife! The week of the workshop he forwarded my reminder email to her to let her know she was attending. High five to all these sneaky/thoughtful significant others :) Thank you everyone for coming–I loved learning about everyone’s interest in and appreciation for lettering!

2.25.18 | COCO FRESH | DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Atiliay Brush Lettering Workshop - CoCo Fresh 2-25-18

Boba and brush lettering? Sounds like a good combo to me! :) Thank you CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice for hosting and providing every attendee with a boba drink of their choice! It was pretty cool to be in the heart of Downtown LA, across from Pershing Square, for this workshop. I also loved that we had 2 sets of mother daughter duos attending the class together–workshops are perfect go experience alone or with a friend/family member. Everyone did such an awesome job and I know their skills will just continue to grow and flourish as they continue to practice their lettering!
